The Verdisses natural site, located between Agde and Vias, is a 650-hectare wet coastal plain bordered by the Canal du Midi, the Mediterranean and the Hérault River. It is unique for its hydraulic network, including numerous roubines and artesian wells, which feed the land and foster exceptional biodiversity. The fauna is rich, with remarkable species such as the European cistude, a small freshwater turtle, and the European bee-eater, a bird with colorful plumage. In 2013, a Périmètre de Protection des Espaces Agricoles et Naturels Périurbains (PAEN) was launched, with the aim of preserving the natural heritage, managing water resources and reintroducing environmentally-friendly agriculture. Discover this natural area by taking the "Le tour des verdisses" hike, a 12 km loop starting from Agde.
