Viewpoint
The volcanic cliffs of Cap d'Agde and the "La grande Conque" cove with its black sand beach are the result of a succession of underwater volcanic eruptions that took place around 750,000 years ago, at the southernmost tip of the Auvergne volcano chain. Rock eroded by the sea plunges its basalt claws into the seabed, which is bathed in an infinite range of blues by the sun. Volcanic eruptions are still visible in the diversity of the soil: solidified lava flows, yellow tuffs in regular layers, quartz, clay... The cliff's tip (21 m) offers an unobstructed view of "le rocher des 2 Frères", the black sand beach, the Richelieu jetty and the Fort de Brescou.
